In recent years the sustainability of cities in response to rapidly changing global economic and ecological conditions has become increasingly important. The dramatic surge in urban population and the growing pressure on urban centers frames the challenge of how to responsibly manage resources and inhabitants and poses the question of how future urban development can successfully negotiate consumption and production while offering communal spaces for recreation and regeneration.

This proposal investigates how reconfigured existing infrastructure can become an example of merging human activity with ecological systems. By adopting an agency of physical enhancement and programmatic connectivity synthetic and natural processes can symbiotically coexist while engaging and improving adjacent communities. These communities should be allowed to genuinely participate as users and active contributors, in order to address immediate environmental, economic and social needs.
